America’s Greatest Promise

You are thrilled by
America's greatest promise
of absolute good.
Lured by movies,
chewed up like a fall guy,
only to be conned
in Hollywood plot.

Bloom wondrous and real
in the mundane,
roll in the sweetness
of practical and pure.

Have faith that tomorrow
will be a
good morning.

Bringing a book to life
is a labor of love,
unique in ability to take you
into the wild
of literary worlds.

It's true,
I want a doomed love
that is fierce
and tragic.

Listening to my heart,
you are
all I want.

She is safer
if she does not feel
too much;
she is gently dying
in the memory
of love.

I've wanted to write
but a book would be
the proverbial bird in
gilded cage,
for fear it might disappear
and empty her heart.

That heartbreaking face
and eyes
of incredible delicacy,
something made you want to stare
and to notice her.

Fate is the captain behind
the steering wheel
in past narration and tales
of magic.
